Active IQ Level 2 Diploma in Health and Fitness

Introduction.

The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Fitness provides learners with a broad base of knowledge and skills to work in a variety of customer-facing roles within the active leisure industry. This includes the knowledge and skills required to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment.

During the qualification learners will cover:

  • Anatomy, physiology and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness
  • Health and safety in the fitness environment
  • The skills to conduct client and group inductions in a gym-based environment and support exercise adherence and a healthy lifestyle
  • The skills to plan, instruct and supervise safe and effective exercise and physical activity sessions
  • Professionalism for fitness instructing

  • Delivering exceptional customer service
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
  • Skills for entering employment
  • Skills for employment interviews

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements.

Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.

The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.


Qualification Structure

Learners must complete the nine mandatory units and a minimum of 12 optional units including the minimum requirements for two of the pathways.

About this qualification

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and above.

This qualification is designed for learners who want to work as a Personal Trainer in the Sport and Active Leisure sector. This qualification is aimed at learners that are not currently in the role and those that may go on to be employed, or self-employed, as a Personal Trainer.

Learners must have achieved a suitable Level 2 Fitness or Gym Instructing qualification before enrolling onto this qualification.
